FROM THE MAIN OFFICE
Junior Parking Lottery - Semester 2 - Application Deadline 1/10/25
There is a very limited number of parking spots in the auditorium parking lot, so we have a lottery each semester for juniors. Please note that most juniors will not receive a parking spot, so please make arrangements for transportation to school. We have about 30 spots for juniors each semester.
Juniors must be in good standing to qualify for this parking privilege (i.e. all detentions must be served).
Students, please complete this form by January 10 to enter the parking lottery. You MUST have a valid driver's license to be eligible for a parking spot. If you are awarded a spot, you will need to bring a check for $90 made out to the Town of Medfield.
If you were awarded a spot during first semester, you may enter the lottery again, but those who did not park first semester will have priority. I will let you know by January 15 if you have been awarded a spot. Parking for semester 2 begins on January 23.
Please reach out to Mrs. Hagan if you have any questions.
HANDBOOK HIGHLIGHTS
Periodically, we will include Handbook Highlights to help parents and guardians navigate the ins and outs of your child’s educational journey. In each installment, we will shine a spotlight on a section of the MHS Student Handbook, equipping you with useful information.
FOOD/DRINKS
Food and/or drink may only be consumed in the cafeteria during school hours. Water may be permitted in classrooms at the teacher’s discretion.
Food delivery is prohibited during school hours. Parents should refrain from delivering food or drinks during the school day. Food deliveries from GrubHub, DoorDash, etc. are prohibited.
Lunches must be dropped off at the main office and may be obtained during the student’s assigned lunch period.
FROM THE SCHOOL COUNSELING OFFICE
SENIORS! Local scholarships are now available!
We encourage all seniors to apply! Students should check their email or Google Classroom to access the application.
All local scholarship and award applications must be submitted no later than Friday, January 24th at 2:30 pm. No late applications will be considered.
There are two separate application processes: a general award application and specific individual applications.
Completion of the general award application will make students eligible for about 25 scholarships. This is a Google form students fill out one time.
There are also about 30 scholarships that have their own application. These applications are all due to Mrs. McGrory in the School Counseling Office by 2:30pm on the 24th.
Additionally, we have scholarships, with awards ranging from $500 - $50,000 listed on the School Counseling Website! Each scholarship has its own deadline - with many not due until January, February, or even March. Check out these scholarship opportunities on the School Counseling Website!
Please see your School Counselor with any questions.

2025 Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
On Tuesday, February 11th, Medfield will be offering the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). Students should report to guidance at 7:45AM on test day. Students can register here:
The test, optional and open to all CURRENT JUNIORS & SENIORS, is approximately 3 hours in length. Students are reminded that they are responsible to approach teachers in order to make up all missing assignments. Students will check-in to the MHS Guidance office the morning of the exam.
The ASVAB is an interest inventory that allows students to explore potential career options. The ASVAB is designed to help students learn more about themselves and the world of work, to identify and explore potentially satisfying occupations, and develop an effective strategy to realize potential career goals.
There is no fee to take the test. If you have any questions about registration please contact the school counseling office.
FROM THE MHS PTO
MASSACHUSETTS STATE SEAL OF BILITERACY
The Medfield Public Schools has proudly participated in the State Seal of Biliteracy program since 2019 and so far has awarded 136 state seals to our graduating seniors beginning with the class of 2020. The languages honored have included Spanish, Portuguese, Latin, French, Mandarin Chinese, Lithuanian, and Japanese. Students earn this honor upon their graduation from high school. They must demonstrate proficiency in English by attaining a score of 472 or higher on the ELA MCAS and a score of Intermediate High in each domain of the second language: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. The assessment in the second language must be approved by DESE. Full guidance can be found on the state seal website: https://www.doe.mass.edu/scholarships/biliteracy/
The Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy program was signed into law in 2017 for the following reasons:
Encourage students to study and master languages;
Certify attainment of biliteracy skills;
Recognize the value of language diversity;
Provide employers with a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills;
Provide universities with a method to recognize and give credit to applicants for the attainment of high-level skills in languages;
Prepare students with skills that will benefit them in the labor market and the global society; and
Strengthen intergroup communication and honor the multiple cultures and languages in a community
While the seal itself is a graduation award, it helps us to verify and honor the diversity of languages and cultures within our community. To develop high-level skills in any second language can require hundreds of hours of immersion/ exposure. Therefore, we want all families to be aware of our participation in this program.
Testing dates for 2025 have been established: Seniors in Spanish will take the AAPPL on February 7th during the school day. Seniors in French and Mandarin will take the AAPPL on February 28th during the school day.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Ellen Toubman, department chair for World Languages and Cultures at 508-359-4367 ext 11015 or one of the school principals.

A Legacy of Passion: The Peter Kenny Story
Pete Kenny was a late bloomer. He found his passion for sports broadcasting at age 48 and earned a degree at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting. Two years into his dream job at Medfield TV, he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2010. We pay tribute to Pete each year by awarding a scholarship in his name to a Medfield High School graduate who demonstrates a passion for TV and media.
Hear Peter’s story through the voices of his friends and family, and learn about past scholarship winners in our new video, Legacy of Passion: The Peter Kenny Story.
Please help us continue Peter’s legacy by donating to the 2025 Peter Kenny Scholarship Fund. Visit www.medfield.tv/donate and add a Dedication in Memory of Peter Kenny to your donation form.
