HANDBOOK HIGHLIGHTS

Periodically, we will include Handbook Highlights to help parents and guardians navigate the ins and outs of your child’s educational journey. In each installment, we will shine a spotlight on a section of the MHS Student Handbook, equipping you with useful information.

GIFT GIVING POLICY

The Medfield School Committee discourages gift-giving to staff. Massachusetts State Law prohibits public employees from accepting gifts valued at $50 or more. If you so desire, please consider making a donation to the Medfield High School Library Gift Books in honor of a selected staff member. You may also make a general donation to the Medfield High School Gift Fund, which will be given to the selected staff member to purchase supplemental materials.

FROM DECA

DECA is our competitive business team (over 200 MHS students) who compete with over 1,000 local students at districts (DS, Millis, Holliston, KP, etc.) in January.

The top 5 in each event (marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, tourism, etc.) at districts go on to compete with about 4,000 students at DECA states in February (last year over 50!). Buses and hotel rooms get expensive and we are trying to lessen the burden for students/families by this fundraiser. The top 6 at DECA states go to International DECA in Orlando in April (last year 5 students).

Students love getting this real-life experience of presenting solutions while networking with other business-interested students.

MCPE NEWS

Funds raised at events like last month’s Fall Ball are how MCPE is able to provide grants to enrich education at Medfield Public Schools. Grants are awarded in three cycles throughout each school year – Fall, Winter, and Spring – and we are excited to share the results of MCPE’s first grant cycle of 2024-2025. Through your generosity, MCPE was able to award $13,000 in funds for three grants to educators and administrators across three schools this fall!!

  • Button maker and supplies for the Wheelock School reading incentive program, providing tangible rewards in the form of customized and collectible buttons that celebrate reading achievements. The earned buttons awarded each month for reading goals will be an integral part of Wheelock’s reading incentive program, enhancing student motivation, fostering a community of readers, and promoting lifelong reading habits. With this new program, students will be encouraged to read for pleasure, and they can proudly showcase their commitment to their own reading journey and gain recognition for their efforts.

  • Materials for a hands-on environmental science program at Blake Middle School, building bat boxes, planting pollinator gardens, and distributing hummingbird feeders. Students will deepen their understanding of environmental science by participating in unique, real-world lessons and hands-on activities that connect directly to the local environment. Students will support local pollinator populations and gain practical experience in promoting biodiversity, fostering environmental stewardship, and learning about the critical role pollinators play in ecosystems right in their own backyard.

  • GoFi therapy dog for Medfield High School, to support student well-being, enhance emotional support, and foster a sense of community. The dog will be available for students throughout the school day as a familiar and comforting presence, which will help improve their emotional resilience, provide motivation, and connect the school community. The presence of the therapy dog will be a reliable sense of comfort and connection during stressful periods, reducing anxiety and improving mental health. The creation of a supportive environment enhances all students’ ability to focus, learn, think critically and problem solve.

Community donations throughout the year are also critical so that we can fund more projects in future grant cycles. As a designated non-profit organization, donations to MCPE are tax-deductible, and you can contribute either at our website medfieldcoalition.org or through Venmo: mcpe_medfield.

Thank you and happy holidays!

Happy Holidays! For details regarding the MHS yearbook, please read through this FAQs doc. One item of note is how to purchase a copy of the yearbook ahead of distribution in June. Click on https://jostensyearbooks.com/?REF=A01095588 to order a copy...the earlier, the better. The cost is $85 until the end of December, and then it goes up incrementally over time to $95 at the end of the school year. Thanks in advance for your support!
