Latin Day

LATIN DAY

Last Friday, our Latin III students turned the LMC into a bustling Roman city center.  Students researched a variety of topics, from gladiatorial combats to the art of mosaic-making. Others explored the daily lives of Roman citizens, including their fashions, culinary traditions, entertainment, and festive celebrations like Saturnalia and weddings.

To share their knowledge, the students organized a historical reenactment in the school library. Seventh graders studying Greco-Roman history were invited to come and experience a taste of ancient Rome. Our Latin students, dressed in Roman attire, guided visitors through various stations, showcasing their research and engaging them in lively discussions.

From weaving demonstrations to chariot races, the reenactment provided a unique opportunity for Blake students to connect with history in a hands-on way. By sharing their passion for the ancient world, our Latin III students not only deepened their own understanding but also inspired the next generation of historians.

FROM THE FOOD SERVICES DEPARTMENT

On November 22, students will have the opportunity to taste test locally grown and produced kelp meatballs from North Coast Seafoods during their lunch period. Chef Andrew Wilkinson (also fellow Medfield resident) developed these meatballs in an effort to create a delicious, nutrient dense, plant based product that is sustainably produced. The kelp is harvested from the Gulf of Maine and as it grows, it helps clean the ocean and captures carbon, making it one of the most sustainable food sources of food on the planet. Just four ounces of the kelp meatballs provides 13g of protein and 6g of fiber.

The Medfield Food Service Department is always looking for ways to incorporate more local and sustainably produced foods into the meals served to students. These meatballs can be used in a variety of ways that we hope we can integrate as one of our regularly served menu items.

FROM THE THEATRE SOCIETY

MHS Theatre Society Fall Musical: Little Shop of Horrors
November 22-24

What would you do if a plant offered you fame and fortune in exchange for human blood? For Seymour Krelbourn, the answer is simple. Give the plant what it wants.

Little Shop of Horrors is a dark comedy that follows Seymour, a love sick florist, who pines over his co-worker, Audrey. During a total eclipse of the sun, a strange plant appears and offers him everything he ever wanted, but at a very steep price. Seymour keeps and names this mysterious plant Audrey II after the girl that he loves, and starts down an exciting and dangerous path.

Over time, Audrey II begins to attract customers who are intrigued by its growing size. Yet, as the shop grows in popularity, so does the impending sense of doom filling the air. And, when people start going missing, this feeling is only heightened.

Little did Seymour know that as Audrey II got more and more blood, it would also become more and more greedy. Ultimately, Seymour’s fate shows that there is a price to pay for exchanging your morals for profit. Especially when those profit margins slowly become smaller.  LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (BROADWAY VERSION) is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com Licensed by MTI.
