From: Mr. Holms’ Latin II Class
Did you know that Halloween has Celtic roots?
MHS Latin II students have been exploring the fascinating world of the Celts, the ancient people who once inhabited parts of Europe. Reading Julius Caesar’s narratives, they learned about the complex interactions between the Romans and the Celts. At the end of the unit, students researched famous Celtic warriors and designed decorated warrior pumpkins. The pumpkins featured Celtic shields, showcasing the unique artistry of this ancient culture. By studying the Celts, our Latin II students gained a deeper appreciation for ancient history and how it connects to our modern world. Celtic traditions, beliefs, and mythology have left a lasting impact on everything from art and literature to language and customs. So next time you see a jack o'lantern, remember its ancient Celtic origins.
