End of Year Housekeeping: CLASS DUES

Class Dues of $20 are collected each year from students who attend Medfield High School. These funds are used to offset the cost of class events and to seed additional fundraising efforts. For seniors, the funds are used to purchase caps and gowns for graduation, class gifts, and to offset the cost of senior events such as the Senior Cruise and the senior night out at Launch.

Families have been invoiced in the My School Bucks program. If you prefer to pay by check, checks can be made out to the Town of Medfield and sent to the HS Main Office. Please indicate your student’s name and year of graduation in the memo line. If you owe dues for students in different grades, please send in a separate check for each student.

If you have any questions about the balance for which you are invoiced, please contact Maura Fitzgerald at mfitzgerald@email.medfield.net. If your family is in need of financial assistance, please contact Brenda Hagan at bhagan@email.medfield.net.

DAY OF SILENCE

On Wednesday, May 17th, Harmony, MHS' gender-sexuality alliance, is sponsoring its annual Day of Silence, a day of awareness (typically celebrated globally in April) of the silence that LGBTQ+ students experience every day due to fear of harassment. According to the most recent MetroWest Health Survey data, 45% of LGBTQ+ students at MHS reported depressive symptoms in the last 12 months, as opposed to 16% of their straight peers; 33% of LGBTQ+ students at MHS reported suicidal ideation, as opposed to 11% of their straight peers. For over a decade, MHS students have been invited to join in this voluntary demonstration by either committing to remaining silent for the duration of the school day or by pledging to stand up to anti-gay language and address it when it is safe to do so. Students who are silent are encouraged to participate in their classes in non-verbal means; they will not be penalized for not speaking. If it is "disruptive," we hope it has a positive effect, to call attention to the voices we are not hearing. What can you do to end the silence?

Make A Wish Logo

Hi, I’m Shea Woolley and I’m a senior at Medfield High School. I was connected with Make-A-Wish when I was receiving chemotherapy treatment for lymphoma in my junior year. Make-A-Wish grants wishes for kids with critical illnesses to give them an uplifting experience and renewed hope. The foundation and the community that got involved with me played a huge role in helping me get through my treatment, which is why I joined the Make-A-Wish Youth Ambassador Program this year. We are working to raise $10,000 to grant a wish for a kid in need, with this goal being divided to $367 for each member of the program. If you are able, I would greatly appreciate donations of any size, which you can submit through my link below. Thank you!

Current Juniors/Rising Seniors, Class of 2024:

Knock one of your important college application to do tasks off your list:

Come to the Writing Center to start, check in on, or even finalize your College Application essays!

Remember, it's easy to sign up for Flex Writing Center appointments via your My Learning app. Having problems getting an appointment? Just email me:

bwren-burgess@email.medfield.net to see what we can organize for you.

You've got this! ~WB

PS: And of course, all students are welcome to continue to make appointments in the Writing Center for help on all your writing:
