May 19, 2021 --
Dear Parents,
On Monday, May 17th, Governor Baker lifted many of the restrictions regarding masks, including children wearing masks outside at recess. Throughout this pandemic, superintendents have been given at least a 24-hour notice before any change that directly impacts schools. Unfortunately, we were not given advanced notice on Monday's announcement pertaining to recess and other outside activities. My schedule on Monday afternoon and night (New Elementary School Working Group, School Committee, and then Annual Town Meeting) did not permit me to consult with our local health experts on the new guidance. I have relied on the input of these talented Medfield parents and residents throughout the entire pandemic and I wasn't implementing this abrupt change without their feedback. The consultation was completed this morning and I informed principals that our students are no longer required to wear masks at recess, outside physical education classes, or outside athletic events.
As always, thank you for your patience.
