December 14. 2020 --
Dear Parents,
Last week, all superintendents were informed that Commissioner of Education, Jeffrey Riley was presenting new student learning recommendations to the Massachusetts Board of Education on Tuesday, December 15th. These new regulations will set standards for the amount of "live /synchronous teaching" required in a hybrid or fully remote model. If the regulations are accepted tomorrow by the Massachusetts Board of Education, the hybrid models statewide will require 35 hours of live/synchronous teaching every two weeks and fully remote models will require 40 hours of synchronous teaching every two weeks. The new regulations would begin on January 19, 2021. The Medfield School Committee and I fully support these new regulations and see this as a positive change for our students. Even though this is a change in state regulations, it is still subject to mandatory collective bargaining with the Medfield Teachers' Association. We look forward to embarking on these conversations so we can implement these new regulations for our students.
Thanks,
Jeff Marsden
