Bullying Prevention & Intervention

DISTRICT POLICY

The Medfield Public Schools Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan has been published and approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.  The Medfield Public Schools expects that all members of the school community will treat each other in a civil manner and with respect for differences. At each school administrators, teachers, and support personnel will articulate this vision clearly so that all members of the school community are aware of the district’s commitment to bullying prevention and intervention.

FROM THE MEDFIELD HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT PARENT HANDBOOK...

Bullying and Harassment

Bullying is defined as acts repeated over a period of time that are intended to intimidate, threaten or harass another individual.

Harassment is defined by the victim's perception in combination with objective standards and expectations.

Bullying/Harassment in school occurs when a student or adult's verbal or physical conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's educational or work performance by creating an intimidating, hostile, humiliating or offensive work environment.  This includes incidents that may not be primarily based within the school/school day, but impact the student's learning environment.  A single incident, depending upon the severity, may constitute criminal harassment.  Any member of the Medfield High School community found to have participated in acts of bullying and/or harassment are subject to discipline.  The disciplinary action will be commensurate with the severity of the infraction.

To submit a Bullying Prevention and Intervention Incident Report, fill out and print the Incident Reporting Form for delivery to the appropriate building principal.
