MHS MUSIC PHILOSOPHY
Music education stresses the development of aesthetic awareness through a series of interrelated course offerings that promote an understanding and enjoyment musical literature and technique. By creating, performing, listening to and writing music, students work towards mastery of the musical language and the inherent life skills contained within including:
- critical thinking and listening
- emotional expression and investment
- risk-taking
- responsibility
- time management
- leadership
- cooperative skills
MUSIC OBJECTIVES K-12
Students will:
- Become aware of fundamental music concepts through the study of notation and instrumentation.
- Interact as a musical ensemble during rehearsals and performances.
- Learn the essentials of group dynamics and cooperative behavior.
- Invest in a common goal.
- Improve musical skills with the goal of reaching one’s musical potential.
- Explore the benefits of risk-taking.
- Develop good time management practices.
- Appreciate the cultural diversity of music and its historical significance.
