Weekly News Update - March 5, 2018

The Medfield High School PTO meeting originally scheduled for WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7th has been CANCELLED!


Congratulations to the Medfield-Ashland-Dover-Sherborn Girls Gymnastics squad for an outstanding showing at the state championship meet this past Saturday, March 3rd at Shrewsbury HS.  The team placed FIFTH overall in the state!

A round of applause to Noah Garfield and John McNeil who both competed at the New England States track meet over the weekend.  A standing ovation for John McNeil who finished SECOND overall in the high jump!

The MIAA D2 South Boys Hockey game scheduled for Wednesday, March 7th has been postponed due to weather concerns.  The game will now be played Friday, March 9th at 4:00 pm at the Gallo Rink in Bourne.

The Medfield-Ashland Ski Team will be represented at the state championships this Tuesday, March 6th at the Berkshire East Resort in Charlemont, MA by MHS skier, Alex Hagood!  Best of luck to Alex and congrats to the entire team as they are to receive the MIAA Alpine Ski Sportsmanship Award. GO WARRIORS!


Interested in playing a sport this spring at MHS?  You and a parent should attend this meeting which will cover many questions and concerns you may have. Registration is currently open on FamilyID.com.  There is a direct link off the Athletics page (under Activities) on the Medfield High School website.  To complete registration, a current (last 13 months) copy of the physical exam and a check for $225 (made out to “Town of Medfield”) are needed OR you can pay online with UniBank (direct link off Family ID page).  The physical can be dropped off in the Athletic Director’s office or filed in the box outside Mr. Scott’s office. Sports offered for the spring season are:  Track & Field (Boys and Girls - Varsity), Lacrosse (Boys Fr., JV, and V. and Girls Fr., JV, and V.), Softball (Girls JV and V.), Baseball (Boys Fr., JV and V.), Tennis (Boys JV and V. and Girls JV and V.), and Boys Volleyball (JV and V.).

MHS Theatre Society to present the musical, PIPPIN - PIPPIN tells the story of a young prince who returns home from university certain that he will find a fulfilling purpose in life. With the help of a raucous band of performers, Pippin quickly discovers that finding true happiness is more complicated than he thought.  Will Pippin embrace an extraordinary life of glitz, glamor, and glory or "settle" for a mundane and ordinary life of familial responsibility and love? Join us to find out!

Tickets are selling fast for the Senior Fashion Show!  Members of the Class of 2018 will take to the runway on March 17th to model the latest prom fashions.   This annual fundraiser for ANGP is not to be missed! WEDNESDAY, DECORATING WORKSHOPS start this week: 6:30-9:00 pm, HS cafeteria and run every week through the end of May.  We need the help of parents from all classes to get ready for our June 3rd celebration.  Come for the entire session or give us an hour of your time. We have jobs of all sizes. Thank you!

SENIOR PARENTS: Stop by this Wednesday’s decorating workshop with your photos for ANGP’s candid picture wall. Photos should be 4x6 or smaller and can be of your student at any age, in any setting. Elementary class and team photos needed too. Submit only copies and write the name of the student and friends on the back. Drop off at following locations ASAP as we can not start our work without them.

The Medfield Public Schools and Medfield Memorial Library present “An Evening with Newbery Award winning author of THE CROSSOVER, Kwame Alexander”, on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 6:00 pm in the Blake Middle School auditorium.  Registration is required and tickets are limited. There is a box top collecting box in the main office of the high school.  Although high schools are not able to receive the money from box top collections, the middle and elementary schools will be able to benefit.  So please send in any box tops you have lying around and perhaps keep a ziplock bag in the kitchen to collect new ones. Then send them in every so often and they will be collected and given to the other schools.    Thank you so much for your support.





The Band-o-rama concert featuring musicians from grades 4-12 is scheduled for Tuesday, March 13 at 7:00pm in the Blake MS gym.  The following night, on Wednesday, March 14 at 7:00 pm, the annual String Fling with orchestral members from grades 4 - 12 will perform in the Blake MS gym. The concerts are free and open to all!



SOPHOMORE PARENTS are invited to come hear from our counseling department about career development, future planning and student wellness.


On Thursday, March 29th, Medfield will be offering the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery).  Students can register here: ASVAB

The test, open to all CURRENT JUNIORS & SENIORS is approximately 3 hours in length.  Students are reminded that they are responsible to approach teachers in order to make up all missing assignments.  Students will check-in to the MHS Guidance office the morning of the exam.

The ASVAB is an interest inventory that allows students to explore potential career options.  The ASVAB is designed to help students learn more about themselves and the world of work, to identify and explore potentially satisfying occupations, and develop an effective strategy to realize potential career goals.  There is no fee to take the test. If you have any questions about registration please contact the guidance office.

Registration is Open for New Life's 5K Fundraising Run/Walk

New Life Furniture Bank is excited to announce its 1st Annual New Life 5K Trail Run. This fundraising event will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, May 5th at the scenic Medfield State Hospital grounds in Medfield, MA. The New Life 5K Trail Run is open to the public, and all ages are encouraged to run, jog or walk in what promises to be an annual family event not to be missed! Registration is open now! The Massachusetts Miss Amazing event is fast-approaching and will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Medfield High School!
