Weekly News Update - December 11, 2017

The MHS Site Council meeting is scheduled for MONDAY, December 11th at 3:15 pm in the main office conference room

TUESDAY, December 12th is a Teacher Professional Day.  MHS students will be dismissed at 11:10 am.

Looking to get in the spirit of the season?  You can start by experiencing the sounds of the talented musicians of the MHS concert band and choir at the Winter Concert scheduled for WEDNESDAY, December 13th beginning at 7:00 pm in the HS auditorium.  The concert is free and open to all!

On December 15th, the MHS nurses will be screening the 10th grade students for vision, hearing and obtaining a height and weight.  According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health CMR 200.400; Vision and Hearing Screenings will be performed by school health personnel on each student in the public school once during high school.  If you prefer that your child be excused from this screening, please contact me via email or telephone.  Should you have any questions or concerns regarding 10th grade screening, Liz Bennett can be reached at ebennett@email.medfield.net or at 508-242-8568.


Nothing says "Happy Holidays" more than a 2018 yearbook for your student! The yearbook staff is working hard to be inclusive of all grades...not just seniors. AP EXAM INFORMATION COMING IN THE NEW YEAR
All students enrolled in an AP course(s) will be able to register and pay for AP exams by visiting:  http://aptestservice.com/medfield. The cost for each exam is $100.  There is a late fee of $15 per test.  The window for test registration runs from January 5th--March 2nd, 2018.  After the December recess we will be meeting with students about AP exams to explain:

-The AP exam schedule

-Sending scores to colleges

-Eligibility for extended time

-Potential conflicts with exam and/or field trips

-Financial Aid

LOOKING AHEAD:
Don’t miss  our JAZZ WINTERFEST concert scheduled for TUESDAY, December 19th beginning at 7:00 pm in the HS auditorium. Come and listen to the sounds of the incredibly talented musicians of our MHS Jazz Band and Jazz Choir.  The concert is free and open to all.


MHS Students will be dismissed on FRIDAY, December 22 at 11:10 am.  ALL Medfield Public Schools will be CLOSED for the December recess MONDAY, December 25 - MONDAY, January 1.  Classes will resume on TUESDAY, January 2.

MEDFIELD MUSIC ASSOCIATION NOTES
The December 5th MMA meeting has been cancelled. The next meeting is scheduled for January 9th.

Spaghetti with Santa…and a few of his winter friends!  As of midday Sunday, December 3rd, there were just about 25 tickets total left for the big event on Wednesday, December 6th. Anyone interested in getting tickets are advised to call Park Street Books first before making a trip to the store. STUCO 2017 THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE
If some of you found your children rummaging through your home pantries last week...there was a reason why! The MHS Student Council spearheaded a Thanksgiving week can drive to "fill the shelves" at the Medfield Food Cupboard during this holiday season. With the help and enthusiasm of MHS students and staff, over 3,000 cans were collected and brought over to the food cupboard last week. GO WARRIORS!

On Thursday, November 30th at 6:30 pm, the MHS guidance staff invite Junior parents to attend Junior Future Planning Night. Topics to be covered include the college search process, Naviance, the Common Application, standardized testing, and mental health resources at the college level."


ANGEL RUN NEWS - The field is close to 1,300 runners. Here is the final week's training plan. Run 30 minutes 2x this week leaving Friday and Saturday as full rest days. MEDFIELD MUSIC ASSOCIATION NOTES
Nearly 30 members of MHS Concert Band will join the MIT Wind Ensemble, directed by Fred Harris, at its annual PRISM concert at 8:00 pm, Friday, Dec. 1 at Kresge Auditorium on the MIT Cambridge campus. The concert is open to the public, and tickets can be purchased here. Cost is only $5 per person

Introducing Spaghetti with Santa…and a few of his winter friends!  The MMA is in full swing with planning for the 44th year of Spaghetti with Santa on Dec. 6th, and this year it has been expanded to include a bunch of his wintry pals, including our MHS Theatre Society Snow Queen. The MHS community is also invited to support the music program fundraiser two ways:

Weekly News Update - November 20, 2017

There will be a ½ day of school on Wednesday, November 22 with an early dismissal time at MHS of 11:10 am.  ALL Medfield Public Schools will be CLOSED on Thursday and Friday, November 23 and 24 for the Thanksgiving recess.  Classes will resume on Monday, November 27th.


Congratulations to the MHS Science Olympiad team on their meet results at Lowell on November 9th.  The Biological Molecule team of Anton Kobrin, Heta Shah, Queeniy Liu, and Jasmine Zhu placed 12th.  The Write-It, Do-It team of Anthony Cimino, Christopher Herbst, Anna Zhang, and Katie Qian placed 8th.  Last (but NOT least!), the Ecology team of Eri Selmani, Gabe Springer, Agnes Zhao, and Khushali Shah took SECOND place!  Nice job, team!


FOOD DRIVE Donation Request at MHS Thanksgiving Football Game
This year’s Thanksgiving Day “Turkey Bowl” football game will be held at Medfield High School, and the Food Cupboard is teaming up with the Warrior football team and the cheerleaders for a food drive. Please support our MHS team and our town by bringing a non-perishable and unexpired food donation to the annual Medfield vs. Dover Sherborn Turkey Bowl. (Please drop off your donation before half-time.) The game starts at 10:00 am. Thank you for your generosity, and “Go Warriors!”


Come gather to honor the lives of Ray Williams and Billy Carrabis at the second annual WILLIAMS - CARRABIS MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT on Saturday, November 25th at 10:00 am on the MHS Turf.  See flyer posted below for more details.

MEDFIELD MUSIC ASSOCIATION NEWS - Buy a wreath...help a music student!
The annual Medfield Music Association Wreath Sale has kicked off and purchases will help offset costs associated with this year’s music trip. Wreaths are $20 each and can be purchased from music students or directly from the MMA by using the form in the on the MMA website at www.medfieldmusicassociation.com.  Deadline to order is Thursday, November 9th; wreaths will be delivered the Saturday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 25th).

MCPE Update
Thank you, Medfield!  We have already raised over $20,000 and are well on our way to our lofty goal of $75,000 in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Medfield Coalition for Public Education!  Your dollars allow us to fund amazing programs across our five schools.  Every household should have received our mailer asking for your generosity last week.  If you did not, you can visit our website at www.medfieldcoalition.org to donate online and we will put up a beautiful blue ribbon on your mailbox acknowledging your donation.  Thank you and please let's get to this goal for our children and our amazing public schools!

MHS WINTER ATHLETICS MEETING
Interested in playing a winter sport?  You and a parent must attend the WINTER ATHLETICS meeting to be held on Tuesday, November 7th at 6:00 pm in the MHS gym.  Please read important information about the fee structure changes that were approved by the Medfield School Committee on June 5, 2017 on the document posted below.


ALL Medfield Public Schools will be CLOSED on Friday, November 10th in observance of Veterans Day.

Buy a wreath...help a music student!
The annual Medfield Music Association Wreath Sale has kicked off and purchases will help offset costs associated with this year’s music trip. Wreaths are $20 each and can be purchased from music students or directly from the MMA by using the form in the on the MMA website at www.medfieldmusicassociation.com.  Deadline to order is Thursday, November 9th; wreaths will be delivered the Saturday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 25th).

ANGEL RUN NEWS
Angel Run early bird deadline fast approaching! Don't delay. Sign up at www.medfieldfoundation.org before midnight this Wednesday, 11/1 to get the famous Angel Run shirt and early bird registration price. If you are training with the MFi Angel Run program, three times this week go out and do the following sequence: 9 min run, 1.5 min. walk twice end with another 9 min run. Four training weeks remaining. See you on Dec. 3rd with bells on!

Weekly News Update - October 23, 2017

This Friday, October 27th the amazing and varied talents of many of our MHS students will be on full display.  WARRIORS FOOTBALL kicks off their first tournament game at home vs. Falmouth beginning at 6:30 pm.  GIRLS VARSITY VOLLEYBALL continues regular season play at home vs. Dedham HS at 6:30 pm in the gym.  Rounding out the evening’s events...our Theatre Society will present its opening night performance of THE SNOW QUEEN at 7:00 pm (see details below). Choose your event and come on out to support our students this Friday night. LET’S GO WARRIORS!

ANGEL RUN…friendly reminder. All you angels out there tell your friends to sign up for the MFi Angel Run this week at MedfieldFoundation.org. Here is week 5 of your training plan. Get out there 3 times with the routine of running for 8 minutes and walking for 2. Do three rounds of the combination. You will be ready for the December 3rd 5k!
