FLY GIRLS - MORE INFO!

Click here for a brief excerpt  (less than 6 minutes) from a talk by Keith O'Brien, author of "Fly Girls", telling a story of inspiration and courage and integrity; and a fitting story for the month of March, Women's History Month.

Author Keith O'Brien will be here on April 12th to talk about his book Fly Girls and tell us more about this compelling real story of five amazing pilots who overcame the odds and made history.

If you turn in an order form for the book FLY GIRLS no later than March 26th, you can get this book signed by the author Keith O'Brien! (the order form is attached here).

Think about it, maybe someday this book will become a movie, a box office hit. Imagine having a signed copy of a book that was made into a movie. How cool is that!

Think about how it could be an awesome gift for someone, like a relative or a family friend who likes stories of success, grace and valor. Don't you think they would love to have a book like that!?

Let us hope when he comes to see us, he can feel glad that people really want to read his book.

Happy reading!

Incoming 7th/8th (2019-2020) Parent Night Follow Up Info

Good morning -

It was wonderful to see many of you at last night's parent information night for incoming 7th and 8th grade parents/guardians.  I am writing with a few 'follow up' items and regarding planning for 2019-2020.  For your reference, I have copied the link to the presentation along with the Program of Studies from last night...

All sixth-eighth graders have the opportunity to choose to participate in Band, Orchestra, or Chorus as a part of their course schedule for three periods per week. Please note that this is an increase in 'contact time' from 2 periods per week this year.  This additional period will take the place of the primary 'related rotation' - see details below...

  • For 6th grade the related rotation consists of 4 classes (Coding, Consumer Science, Guidance, and Library/Media Skills) that meet one period/week for about 8 weeks each.
  • For 7th grade the related rotation consists of 4 classes (Consumer Science, Guidance, General Music, and Investigating Technology) that meet one period/week for about 8 weeks each.
  • For 8th grade the related rotation consists of 4 classes (Embracing Diversity and Combating Prejudice, Consumer Science, General Music, and Guidance) that meet for about 8 weeks each.

If you have any further questions about the specific impact of this decision, please contact Kelly Campbell (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or me.  All parents/guardians must complete the music ensemble selection Google Form for 2019-2020.

ATTENTION - Incoming 6th Grade Parents

February 25, 2019

Dear Incoming 6th Grade Parents/Guardians,

I hope everyone had a wonderful vacation! I would like to officially welcome you to the Blake Middle School community.  You have three exciting and often challenging years ahead as your child travels through the middle school years.  Our school is shaped and guided by the needs of this age group and works to assure a safe and supportive student-centered environment for all to grow and succeed.

This Wednesday, February 27 at 6:30 p.m., we will present an informational program that will introduce you to many of the programs at Blake.  We will also take some time to discuss our technology initiatives and iPad program for students.  It is our hope that all parents/guardians attend. During the evening we will highlight aspects of our Program of Studies (Blake Program of Studies 2019-2020), and share information about our world language and music programs. Sixth grade students at Blake will select French, Spanish, or Mandarin and will continue studying their selected choice in seventh and eighth grade. We encourage all students to stay with the same course of their world language choice for their middle school experience.  Below please find links to the Course Selection Google Forms that all parents/guardians must complete by Friday, March 1...

We strongly believe that Blake is an exciting place for students to learn and grow and look forward to this journey with you.  You will play an integral part in your child’s transition to middle school and in his/her early adolescent development.  We hope that you will get involved and stay involved as we work together to support all of our students. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Take care.

Important Info for Families Borrowing/Leasing iPads

August 27, 2018

Good morning -

I hope everyone had a nice weekend.  After an unanticipated lengthier delay, we received word at the end of last week that the iPads have been shipped and should arrive by the end of this week.  We have adjusted the plans on our end and iPads will be distributed once they have been configured - hopefully towards the end of this week or early next week.  Our staff is fully aware and students will not be 'behind' due to this unanticipated delay.  The beginning of the year is always an 'appropriately messy transition' and we will be sure to help all students acclimate accordingly.  We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

If you have not yet completed the paper work (thanks to those who have already done so), I have copied the information down below.  This paper work can be dropped off at the Blake front office or can be brought to school by students.

Payment Information for Leased Devices

An online payment system through UniPay has been established and all payments will be processed through this link...

Once the link is accessed...

For Families Beginning Their Lease in August, 2018...

I am also sharing a link to a packet containing documents (Medfield Public Schools iPad Lease/Borrow Documents August 2018) that require your signatures and the signatures of the students as well.  The first document, 'Apple Device Lease, Use, and Insurance Agreement', spells out the agreement between the families and the Medfield Public Schools.  Please read it in its entirety and sign the areas that require your signature.  The second document, 'Apple Device Lease Registration Form', is the document that assures delivery of your device.  The third document, 'Responsible Use Agreement', details the expectations and responsibilities for use of these devices.  Please bring these signed documents to the distribution session or they can be dropped off at the Blake Middle School main office.

For Families Borrowing Devices From the District in August, 2018...

The document, 'Responsible Use Agreement'(Medfield Public Schools iPad Lease/Borrow Documents August 2018), details the expectations and responsibilities for use of the devices.  This document must be signed by both students and parents/guardians.  Please bring this completed form to the distribution session or it can be dropped off at the Blake Middle School main office.

We are excited about this program and look forward to the journey together as we work to foster and promote a positive learning experience.  If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me (This email address is being protected from spambots. Take care.
